Do You Need a 600 Visa?

Unlike the 601 ETA which is app-based and automated, the Subclass 600 Visitor Visa is a full visa application requiring documents and assessment. It is ideal for Malaysians who:

Stay > 3 Months

If you wish to stay in Australia for more than 3 months continuously (e.g., 6 months or 12 months parents visit).

ETA Rejected?

If you cannot apply for an ETA due to criminal history, previous overstays, or system errors, you must apply for a 600 visa.

Non-ETA Passport

If you hold a Mainland Chinese passport or other non-ETA eligible travel document.

Common Questions (600 Visa)

How much money do I need to show?

There is no fixed amount, but a general rule is AUD $1,500 - $2,000 per month of stay, plus airfares. The funds must be genuinely yours (no sudden large deposits).

Can I extend my 600 visa while in Australia?

Usually you can apply for a new Onshore Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) to extend your stay — but only if your current visa has no condition that prevents a further stay (8503, 8534, 8535 or 8540) and you meet the onshore application requirements. Check your grant letter or VEVO before you apply.
