Australia Visa Waiting Time 2026: 601 ETA vs 600 Visitor (Malaysia Guide)
Stop Refreshing Your Inbox. Here is the truth about how long it takes.
If you are planning a trip to Australia, the "waiting time" depends entirely on which visa you have applied for. The difference is massive: from Instant to 30+ Days.
1. Subclass 601 ETA (The "Instant" One)
For 90% of Malaysian applicants, the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is approved immediately.
- Speed: Instant (usually within minutes).
- Where to apply: Australian ETA App.
- Delay Warning: If you are asked for "Location" info or it goes to "Received status", it may take 12 hours to 3 days. If it takes longer, it might be refused.
2. Subclass 600 Visitor Visa (The "Slow" One)
If your ETA was refused or you are ineligible (e.g., criminal record), you MUST apply for a Subclass 600.
- Tourist Stream: 20 to 33 days (Standard).
- Business Stream: 7 to 9 days (Standard).
- Sponsored Family Stream: 45 to 84 days (Very Slow).
Important: Do NOT book flights until this is approved. It is a manual process.
3. The "Secret" Option: Frequent Traveller Stream
Malaysian passport holders are eligible for the Frequent Traveller Stream (part of Subclass 600).
- Validity: 10 Years.
- Processing: FAST (often 5-18 days).
- Cost: Significantly higher (~AUD 1,400+).
- Best For: Business people or those visiting family regularly who want to skip the queue for a decade.
Summary:
- ETA: Minutes.
- Visitor Visa (600): ~1 Month.
- Frequent Traveller: ~2 Weeks (but expensive).
